President Visits KETRACO Stand at Energy Conference
Eng. J. Kiilu explains to H.E. President Mwai Kibaki the finer details about the LiDAR technology

H.E. President Kibaki was recently hosted in the KETRACO Stand during the 2nd National Energy Conference held at KICC. The conference which was held from 4th to 6th October at Kenyatta International Conference Centre was organized by Ministry of Energy to showcase progress in the energy sector, innovations and how the Vision 2030 aspirations will be met. The exhibition was run along the conference and gave delegates and the general public a chance to see what the sector has to offer Kenyans. Invited to participate were policy makers, technical experts and stakeholders in the energy sector with a view to exchanging views on cost effective energy supply strategies covering electricity, petroleum and renewable energy to provide social economic growth stimulus for realization of Kenya’s Vision 2030.

It was therefore a pleasant surprise when the President made an impromptu visit to some of the exhibitors including KETRACO’s where he was received by Chairman, Mr. Justus Kageenu, Board Member, Dr. Rev. Jesee Mutura and Managing Director, Eng. Joel Kiilu. This was the first time that KETRACO was exhibiting anywhere since inception and the CEO took the president through the process of transmission lines’ construction. He showcased KETRACO’s use of high-tech LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging, also LADAR), which is an optical remote sensing technology that does contour mapping thereby making line design and survey work much easier. The conference was opened by the President, while the Prime Minister closed it.
